Stolperstiene, or stumbling stones, honor the Jews and all other victims of the Holocaust who were murdered in concentration camps. They are placed in the ground in front of the buildings in Europe where the people last lived. It is a way to remember these people forever, so no one is forgotten. Banksy once said, “I mean, they say you die twice. Once when you stop breathing and a second time, a bit later on, when somebody says your name for the last time.” Stolpersteine are important because they prevent the victims from dying a second time because everyone who walks past a stone will think about the innocent people who were killed.
